If the phrase, “Billboard ranks them, AT40 counts them down” makes you glimmer with nostalgia, then you’re sure to enjoy the smooth groove of After Saturday. Lead vocalist Kelly Ross Kerr’s winsome charm and soaring vocals evoke high school musical meets yacht rock, with a sprinkle of classic country. Kerr’s vision for the acoustic trio is reminiscent of the music he heard crackling over the FM radio as a child, hence the band’s repertoire, which spans nearly eight decades of songs guaranteed to inspire audience participation.
On keyboards, bass, and vocals is the ever eclectic and talented John Sparger, whose family name is synonymous with the music scene in StL. Music runs in his veins, and John’s style is influenced by his father’s classical roots, as well as the rock and pop anthems he and his brother are known to produce in Brother Sparg. John brings a classic rock vibe to After Saturday which is made even more memorable by his infectious and energetic presence.
Rounding out the trio is guitarist Ron Swick, who at age 8, asked for his first guitar and the rest, as they say, is history. Dubbed “Ron Jovi” by friends and family, Ron cut his teeth on the music scene in the metal group, Sinister Madman. Ron is a self-taught guitarist, drummer, songwriter, soundman, tee shirt designer (and other duties as assigned). Ron’s pensive stance and artistic interpretation bring a nuanced depth to each performance, and his deft strumming is the driving force of After Saturday.
Kerr’s reasoning for forming the trio? In the hope that his audience can tune in, drown out the static of life, and revel in the sound of yesterday…with the assurance that what happens After Saturday is a new tomorrow.
